An island of history and culture
Compared to its neighbor, the island of Reunion, Mauritius has a relief little hilly. Its coastal plains and a central plateau have allowed the extensive cultivation of sugarcane and tea for a long time. From this sugar cane, the Dutch made rum, a tradition that has remained anchored in Mauritius, which now has many local rum brands. Several languages are spoken on Mauritius: English, French, Mauritian Creole. Mauritius had once housed an animal that has now disappeared, the dodo, which has become the emblem of the island.
